Americaβs Blood Centers (ABC) submitted formal comments to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regarding its proposed data collection for the 2025 National Blood Collection and Utilization Survey (NBCUS), urging improvements that better reflect how blood is actually collected, managed, and used in todayβs emergency and trauma care system.
The NBCUS is the only national survey that provides comprehensive data on blood collection, processing, testing, transfusion, and utilization in the United States. It plays a critical role in helping blood centers, hospitals, federal agencies, and manufacturers track trends, ensure blood safety, plan for emergencies, and safeguard the nationβs blood supply.
ABC strongly supports CDCβs continued commitment to this vital survey β but emphasized that its future success depends on asking the right questions. This includes a focus on new questions where the most significant change is already occurring: whole blood transfusion and prehospital blood use.
