The mission of FABC is to fund educational initiatives that improve the availability and safety of blood for the sake of the patient.
What We Do:
- Fosters a well-educated and responsible blood community in alignment with the Core Values of America's Blood Centers: Advocacy, Education and Data;
- Funds member-focused initiatives to sustain their missions of providing access to a safe and adequate blood supply;
- Supports excellence in the creation of best practices in blood management and blood safety; and
- Provides opportunities for industry partners to give back to the blood centers and the communities they serve.
Campaigns are fundraising initiatives focused on a particular project or person. Campaigns include large-scale program-specific fundraising efforts or be used to honor individuals who have contributed to the blood community, or as a way for blood recipients and their families to give back to the community. Current and ongoing campaigns include:
Lou Katz Research Grant
In honor of Dr. Lou Katz, ABC Chief Medical Officer, the FABC will raise funds to develop a research grant awarded to an ABC member (with possible collaboration with an industry partner) focused on donor health, safety and management. To contribute, click here.
Jerry Haarmann was a dedicated leader in the blood banking industry for over 20 years. After his sudden passing in April 2014, a group of his former colleagues wanted to find a way to honor both his contributions to blood banking, as well as his friendship to many. Hence the formation of the Jerry Haarmann Memorial Campaign. Jerry's legacy will be honored with the naming of the Jerry Haarmann Leadership Certificate Program. To date over $50,000 has been raised. The Dr. Celso Bianco Lecture Series is an endowment that funds the search, travel, and lodging to honor a leading physician and/or scientist to speak on an emerging issue related to transfusion medicine. This lecture series is an outstanding opportunity to honor over 40 years of contributions in transfusion research, as well as blood and donor safety that Dr. Bianco has provided to donors, patients, and blood center staff. Individual donations from ABC Members, past blood recipients, blood donors, and any individual whose lives has ever been touched by blood donation are always greatly appreciated by the FABC. The general fund is used to support various initiatives aligned with FABC’s mission along with general administrative expenses. Every donation can help, no matter how small or larger.
