A National Week of Impact
Blood Advocacy Week is not just another awareness campaign. It is a coordinated, high-visibility effort to educate the public, mobilize supporters, and advance policies that protect the nation’s blood supply.
Each year, America’s Blood Centers brings together blood donors, community members, blood center professionals, healthcare voices, coalition partners, and advocates in one shared push. The goal is simple: make sure lifesaving blood is available whenever and wherever patients need it.
That means nationwide awareness campaigns, direct outreach to lawmakers, social media mobilization, local engagement, educational resources, and in-person advocacy that creates momentum and real results. When people step in together, the impact reaches far beyond one week.
Our Advocacy Priorities
Modernize the Licensure Process
Each time a new donation site is opened, a blood center must go through an extensive licensure process to add the new site to their existing Blood License Application (BLA). This can take more than a year, despite using the same Standard Operating Procedures, devices, and staff.
Expand Blood on Ambulances
Research shows that every minute of delay in accessing blood increases mortality odds by 5%. However, a critical gap exists in our emergency medical services: most patients don't receive their first transfusion until they reach the hospital, regardless of transport time.
Strengthen Cyber Resilience
Blood centers require immediate support to modernize information technology infrastructures, implement robust cybersecurity measures, enhance staff training, and develop comprehensive incident response plans.
