America’s Blood Centers sent a letter to Senator Patricia C. Bates, in support of a recent Senate Bill 1025, which would establish a tax credit process for businesses that sponsor blood drives in California.
COVID‐19 has severely impacted traditional means of collecting blood, including at business‐based mobile events, straining our nation’s blood supply. This public health emergency has caused a decrease in the number of blood donors and an increase in cancelled blood drives across California. Although the need for blood remains consistent to help people survive traumatic accidents, cancer treatments, surgeries, and more, it is estimated that just three percent of the eligible population in California donates blood each year.
Providing access to a tax credit would be one step in encouraging organizations to partner with community-based blood centers.
