Leading authority in transfusion medicine will lead the organization’s efforts to shape the future of blood banking, transfusion medicine, and cellular therapies
Washington, DC – America’s Blood Centers (ABC), the national organization of community-based, independent blood centers that supply 60 percent of the nation’s blood supply, today announced that Jed Gorlin, MD, MBA, has been named the organization’s Chief Medical Officer. In this role, he will continue positioning ABC as a national leader in shaping the future of blood banking, transfusion medicine, and cellular therapies.

Dr. Gorlin’s experience at community blood centers, the nation’s leading pediatric hospitals, and advising federal government leaders has made him a leader in the blood community and transfusion medicine. A leading authority in transfusion medicine, Dr. Gorlin has held positions on the boards of AABB and the National Blood Foundation, served as a consultant to the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, and serves as Associate Clinical Professor of laboratory medicine at University of Minnesota.
In addition, he is the Vice President of Medical and Quality Affairs for New York Blood Center Enterprises (NYBCe), serving the NYBCe divisions of Memorial Blood Center, Nebraska Community Blood Bank and Community Blood Center of Greater Kansas City. He is currently the co-director of Transfusion Medicine at Hennepin County Medical Center, a level one trauma hospital in Minneapolis, and Children’s Hospitals and Clinics in Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN. He is also the medical director of the New York Blood Center Transfusion Medicine Fellowship Program.
Dr. Gorlin’s received his medical degree from Yale University, MBA from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Business, and a Bachelor of Science from Stanford University. He trained in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology-Oncology at Boston Children’s Hospital and the Dana/Farber Cancer Institute.
